Privacy Policy
Effective: July 13, 2026
Embercut is built local-first: your health and fitness data lives in a database on your device, and the app is fully usable without an account. This policy explains the small set of data we handle when you choose to use online features.
Data stored only on your device
Meals, calories and macros, body weight, workouts, cycles, check-ins, XP/progress, preferences, and progress photos are stored in a local database on your phone. We cannot see this data. Deleting the app deletes it.
Data we process if you create an account
- Email address — used to create and sign in to your account (AWS Cognito, US East region). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address those providers share.
- Cloud backups (optional, you trigger them) — a snapshot of your app data and your progress photos, stored encrypted at rest in AWS (DynamoDB and S3, US East region), tied to your account. You can overwrite it any time; it exists so you can restore after losing or changing your phone.
- Food photos for AI logging (Premium) — when you use photo logging, the photo is sent to our server and to an AI model (AWS Bedrock) to estimate calories and macros, then discarded. Food photos are not stored on our servers.
- Subscription status — purchases run through Apple. Our payments partner RevenueCat processes your subscription state (not your payment details) so we can unlock Premium. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no trackers, no analytics SDKs.
- We never sell your data.
- We don't use your data to train AI models.
Data retention and deletion
Cloud backups persist until you overwrite them or ask us to delete your account. To delete your account and all server-side data, email us at the address below from your account email. Local data is deleted by resetting the app (Profile → Reset all data) or uninstalling.
Health disclaimer
Embercut provides calorie targets with built-in safety floors, but it is not medical advice. Consult a professional before starting an aggressive deficit.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it in the app and update the date above.
